Malawi: Independence Day

My small country, Malawi, will tomorrow be celebrating 43rd Independence Day at Kamuzu Stadium in the heart of the commercial City of Blantyre. This event comes at the time when political atmosphere in the country is not friendly to the extent that the June parliamentary session has been postponed indefinitely. The fuel of this heated era is apparently the validation of one section in the country constitution by the Supreme Court of law that gives powers to the Speaker of parliament to declare all seats of parliamentarians who switched parties after elections vacant.

In spite of the above everyone smiles at the thought of the kind of peace Malawi has enjoyed ever since it got its independence, and all this will be manifested during tomorrow's events. Though there is likelihood of rain drizzles tomorrow many Malawians will obviously make it there.

The celebrations which will be graced by our own President Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika and an envoy from Taiwan will include cultural dances, military displays, school children displays, etc and finally a big soccer match between Malawi and Namibia.

Long live democracy! Long live peace!

Happy Independence Day to you. Hope it went smoothly and everyone had a good time.

And I hope the problem with the switching politicians will be cleared up quickly. Gotta keep an eye on those politicians!
