Hakone Ekiden

Trained college students run Hakone Ekiden at the New Year.

Ekiden is a Japanese word which means marathon relay.

Hakone is a place-name which is 108km away from Tokyo.
Each college team with 10 students runs both ways in two days.

Hakone Ekiden is a popular spectator sport that receives full network television coverage nationwide.

I'm writing this post watching Hakone Ekiden.

That is a neat event. Are the teams from different colleges with rivalries? How many teams get to compete? What is the best time for the run?

I would watch if I was there.
